"If you're not going to the beach, then you're not flying Funston..."
~Weird Brother Chris Cornbill
Reading Matt Epperson's blog about his flight to the beach at Funston brought a smile to my face. There are so many people who fly Funston and don't have the opportunity to land on the beach. One's flight becomes a whole new adventure after we've landed on the beach vs. a top landing...We sometimes are offered help to hike the glider back up to the top, or sometimes we are even asked if we plan on launching from the beach. Someday it'd be fun the actually take someone up on the offer to hike my glider back up to my truck. I have a feeling 1/2 way through the trek, the helper would fake a heart attack just to avoid going any further...
In 2008 I ended up on the beach about a dozen times...quite frankly, I forgot how many times I flew to the beach that year. The same is true for 2009. In 2010 I have yet to go to the beach but, rest assured, I'll be there sooner or later...after all, the year is young.
So, Matt, congratulations on going to the beach...it means you're flying Funston.
