Wendy and I arrived at Arco yesterday afternoon. We have the same room number at the DK Motel as we did last year...Today, we’ll make a run to Mackay for some groceries and other supplies. It is exactly 772 miles from our doorstep in San Mateo, CA to Arco, ID. A few other pilots were trickling in on Saturday with the rest rolling in today.
Arco has what is called the “number hill”…Each high school graduating class since the Truman era has marched up the hillside and written their graduating class year’s numbers. Some of the numbers are very large and clearly required climbing gear with a certain amount of physical prowess to get the job done.
This is the little drive-through called the Number Hill Grill located right next to our hotel. The food is surprisingly good.Tonight there’ll be a pilots meeting with BBQ, then the meet and flying starts up on Monday…I’ll be posting days events as the week goes on.
