The Evening Shift at Funston 3.26.10

This had been a long week at work, so I needed to wrap up it up on a high point...off to Funston I went, then, for an evening flight.

The winds were plenty soarable, but plenty north, also. Diver Dave was up boating around when I arrived, so I set up. Actually, I would have set up if DD was not up in the air...I wanted to fly.

Looking straight up the tail of the sock at launch, I had my doubts, but went for it anyway...it was definitely soarable and smooth. After 20 minutes, the wind switched really north, so I landed to give it a little time.

The velocity picked up, but the wind direction was pegged at it's northy stance. With the sun setting, I launched one more time for a nice long flight with the red tails, crows, and seagulls. The grey and white brilliance of the younger seagulls is incredible. I had the entire ridge to myself for the better part of the flight. The Wuffos were waving madly on the observation deck and I'd wave back. One lady would not stop waving at me, so I could not stop waving back at her.

The Saturn flew superbly after being stored away in the clubhouse for a few months. I love the boaty flying characteristic of that glider...

1st Flight: 20 minutes
2nd Flight: 1 hour, 15 minutes
