Today was a productive day with regard to planning for the Ed Levin Speed Gliding 2010 competition. Brian, JB, and I met at 8 am, then headed up to the 600-foot launch (about 1/3 way up the hill) to scope out some course layout options. The fog was pretty thick, but it was a fun hike as we discussed various turnpoints and altitude gate locations. Planning an event like this is almost as much fun as the speed gliding itself.
We made our way just past the 1200 foot hill (2/3rd the way to the top), tossed around some ideas, then headed back down, making some small adjustments to what we thought would be a fun course for everyone to enjoy. When we returned to the truck, we then headed up to the top for a test run of the course (sans pylons and altitude gates, of course).
Both Brian and I thought the course was pretty nice...we flew fairly conservatively just to get a feel of what lines would be best to take. We should have the course set by next weekend with real turnpoints and altitude gates, etc. The competition is scheduled for January 30th & 31st...
