First Two Days at Chelan

Sunday, day one of the Classic, resulted in quite a few of us landing at the soccer field LZ. I think it was one of those days where it would have paid to back off launch and wait a bit before joining all the others who were sinking out. I made the best of my flight, though, and scratched all I could out of it, then headed out to the LZ. The soccer field LZ is a nice grassy field where we broke down our gliders under shade trees. Bruce Bousfield made it over on toward Sims I believe then landed around that area. A few other pilots made it over the river gorge, too.

Flying time: 18 Minutes
Distance: Soccer Field

Monday, day two of the Classic, was called off due to high winds. So, Doug, Brian, and I headed over to the Grand Coulee Dam via Hwy 2, up 155, then back again via Hwy 174 and 172. Having never flown the area, this was a great opportunity to see the lay of the land.

Doug and Brian...

When we arrived back at the motel, Wendy had started dinner and we all ate pasta and salad. Brian was introduced to rice pudding for the first time. He was hesitant to try it at first, but soon became comfortable with the texture when he realized it did not come from the local sperm bank.

Today is day three of the Classic...the wind conditions are supposed to back off a bit and we should be up in the air.

More later...
