I feel bad for guys who are married to people who take Valentine's Day seriously...I'd like to rename V-day "You'll Never Live Up to Her Expectations Day!"...
Needless to say, Wendy and I had a great V-day, but not because it was V-day, rather because it was just another day. We did, though, witness a true Valentine's Day victory during our walk along the Golden Gate Bridge...a guy had handed his girlfriend a V-day card and we think he proposed to her at the same time...a true victory for that particular individual, but he has now raised the bar abnormally high for the rest. It was nice to see this guy's girlfriend so filled with joy and surprise...she was crying with delight.
Others weren't so lucky...
Later on we headed to the Miramar in Half Moon Bay for a couple beers...They had a special V-day menu all set up and the parade of couples started streaming in around 4 or 5 in the evening. We started placing bets on which guy would or would not succeed with the evening events...one couple in particular came in and the guy had a pensive look on his face while his girlfriend proudly wore what I can only describe as a scowl...they sat in the corner window seat over-looking the ocean and the windows immediately began to fog up...doomed.
Those who casually strolled in and either sat at the bar or chose a high table near the bar seemed more light-hearted about the evening...they were more concerned about having a few drinks and simply talking...Wendy and I sat at the bar.
I hope the guy with the girlfriend who steamed up the windows succeeded last night...he deserves it.
