Today Brian and I decided it was "go time"...none of this waiting around for mediocre conditions to get better, it was Eye of the Tiger right after the pilot's meeting.
Deciding Ants in the Pants launch was the right choice we got into our harnesses, did our radio checks, and confidently walked down to launch, daring any dust devil to rear it's ugly head. A dust devil did, in fact, rear it's ugly head just as Brian had hooked into his glider, but he was able to scream for help and had it all under control in no time...true ACP pilot skills at work!
After Brian launched, I watched him work whatever lift he could find...with the next cycle, I hurled myself off the butte working whatever lift I could find, as well.
Brian soon radioed he was in the LZ...all was good. I was working a broken, side-wire twanging thermal that I thought would be my ticket to Wills Wing sponsorship, but no-go...that damn thermal was too broken and it looks like I'll be buying my own Wills Wing gliders for some time to come...
Both of us smoked it in for superb ACP landings...short flights, but rewarding.
The big difference between today's fights and yesterday? We flew, that is the difference...we didn't wait around and we enjoyed drinking beer (not made by Dallas Willis unfortunately) under the shade trees of the LZ...
Two more day of the Chelan XC Classic...
More later...
