Chelan XC Classic: Day One (Blown Out)

Today brought some windy conditions at the Butte...Brian and I were first to arrive and had our gliders set-up, pre-flighted, and ready to go before the next truckload of pilots arrived. High winds were expected and that is exactly what Mother Nature delivered, but about 1/2 dozen of us flew despite the growing conditions. I was last off the hill as the remainder of the pilots chose wisely not to fly today...another 1/2 hour and I would have wisely been breaking down my glider for the drive back down.

Once in the air, I was happy with how the Sport 2 flew considering the fairly active launch. It was clear, though, that the winds were here to stay for the day with little chance of crossing the river. I remember a similar day like today at last year's comp. Conditions over the Soccer Field LZ were a little turbulent, so speed was our friend.

The Sport 2 mingling with a few of the locals...

Tomorrow and the next couple days should bring lesser winds and more thermals...should be fun!

Sonoma Wingers Mike, Robert, Mike, and Kevin have arrived, as well, for this years XC Classic...good to see them here.
