Yosemite 6/5 & 6/6

We had a great group of pilots all lined up to fly Yosemite this weekend...I had organized a club trip for Wings of Rogallo as monitor, and was excited to fly with everyone...the only problem was that we didn't fly...the spring run-off flooded Leidig Meadow, our landing area.

Regardless, the run-off is really impressive this year. During the day, the snow melts, then runs into the valley with peak water flowing at around 5 AM, just a few hours before we are supposed to launch.

No problem!

But, the weekend was not a total loss...we (Diev, Brian, John, and me) got in a nice long hike to the top of Yosemite Falls and made the best of what the day had to offer...

The rest of the group did the same hike, then left Saturday evening. I was hopeful for a Sunday flight with those who stuck it out, but it was not to be this time around. Getting skunked at Yosemite is not all that bad...there is plenty to do and the company was great.

The hike up to Yosemite Falls is a little less than 7 miles round trip and the scenery is absolutely breath-taking. At the end of the hike, though, we all were dealing with serious "cooler suck" and a cold beer that awaited us within.

Everytime I visit Yosemite it involves a new twist of scenery. I prefer the scenery by air, though, so I'll be heading back later in the year...
